TLOS -HIDDEN CITY AND GORGE EXCURSION /TOUR

Tlos is one of the 6 largest cities and ‘sport centre’ of the Lycia Federal Union. Tlos is also renowned as the city of the mythological hero Bellerophon and his famous flying horse Pegasus. Tlos is the oldest city in the region of Lycia and was founded pre 2000 B.C. It’s necropolis or graveyard, cut into the bedrock, houses many beautifully decorated tombs. One of these tombs is dedicated to Bellerophon. After an informative visit with our guide we will eat surrounded by nature at a nearby restaurant. After wining and dining we will set off for Turkey’s deepest gorge (and the second largest in Europe). |

The magnificent appearance of the canyon is the result of thousands of years of erosion by glacial thaws coming from the Taurus mountains. At the end of april it is possible to walk up to 4 kilometres through the gorge, after the waters have receded. |

During the summer Saklikent gorge is a haven for those wanting to avoid the midday heat with it’s ice-cold water and cool rock walls. After walking up the gorge you can float back down on a rubber ring, taking time to bathe in the natural mud baths on the river bank. A memorable experience! After the walk we will restore our equilibrium with refreshments. This trip boasts an excellent combination of Turkish history and nature. |
