I just love this "Village alike Town", people are so friendly,
life is simple and easy here.
Possessing the most special gifts of nature and history, Koycegiz stands beside the same named lake a tip of which touches the Mediterranean . Now a nature and wild life preserve, this site is a real paradise with its rare and beautiful setting, and with a history going back to 3500 BC. Köycegiz is a farming town producing citrus fruit, olives, honey and cotton. The region is also known for its liquidambar trees, which produce amber gum. There are shady tea gardens, several restaurants and lodging in Köycegiz.
Köycegiz district was first established near the Köycegiz lake in 1867 with the name of Yüksek Kum. Later, the settlement took the name of Köycegiz, which means "little village" in Turkish language. There's a planned settlement in the district. Apart from the historical mosque, the district is famous for odorous different types of flowers and trees and for low windowed old houses with macrame curtains. Some of these houses are used as pendions and these houses are the mirror of the social life of the region. For those who want a peaceful, and quiet vacation away from stess and noise, Köycegiz is an ideal place. Köycegiz has facilities built around the lake. I advise you to stop by at market and taste the honey. Scenic Koycegiz Lake, located near to Dalaman Airport and within convenient distance of Fethiye and Marmaris, is well known for its natural hot springs and mud baths. The lake narrows into a channel, flowing into the Dalyan river and emptying into the Mediterranean at one of Turkey's most spectacular beaches.
Picture above shows the centre of Koycegiz.
The Köycegiz Lake and Island: The Köycegiz Lake (54 km²) is the larges fresh water lake of the region. The lake is surrounded by mountains covered with pine forests, by rich earth and by reedbed. The name comes from settlement place, which is in the northwest. With its island, it's a convenient lake for water skiing, sailing, canoeing, water cycling, rowing and fishing. With touristic facilities, Gedeova Island, and with its fortress ruins Gavurbag Island are distinguished from the others. The lake is 8 m from the sea level. The depth of the lake is 1.5-5m., but at some points the depth is 60m. The lake is quiet in the morning but it waves in the afternoon.
