Dalaman is an established small town on the exotic Turkish Riviera, well-known because of its busy regional airport. It is situated at the mouth of the Dalaman delta which is fronted by 8 km of sandy beach and conservation area with plenty of wildlife. The beach is divided by the river which seperates Sarigerme from Dalaman.
Dalaman is an area of natural beauty. It is located between the sea and mountains and benefits from its proximity to many areas of interest both historical and geographic interest (e.g. Dalyan mud baths, ancient tombs etc). Dalaman is rapidy becoming an area of destination rather than just a stop over on the way to some other resort town.Recent investments to Airport, road ways and the continuous development of the area is making it more accessable. Over - development and exploitation of the area is stopped by the protection afforded to the rare loggerhead turtles that frequent the river and beach.
This should ensure that Dalaman continues to develop in harmony with its surrounding environment and retain its natural beauty .
Dalaman is now rapidly becoming an investment area for many Europeans purchasing property for investment in Turkey.
This seems due to many factors including the town being designated a main touristic area from now on: plans for new marinas and a golf course are underway.
Dalaman town itself has many shops, resturants, bars and tea gardens and is growing quickly due to the investment in the area. Dalaman has its own huge natural beach, although not overly commercial 'yet' it is still pleasant and hosts lots of wildlife. The town is ideally situated for lots of resort areas but perfect if you prefer a quieter place to base yourself. The new tunnel connects the town of Gocek and Dalaman, reducing the journey to only 5 or 10 minutes drive.

Alexandria train station and the Sudanese in Dalaman
In 1906 , Alexandria train station was constructed by mistake in Dalaman and the building still exists and serves today as the headquarters of the state farm. The year before the construction (in 1905 ) the then Khedive of Egypt Abbas Hilmi Pasha had acquired a large part of the fertile plain and had decided to set up a plantation in the region. He had ordered the plans and the material for his projected residence here to his architects in France , at the same as the plans and the material for a train station for Alexandria in Egypt . Unfortunately, the two simultaneous shipments were misdirected, the materials for his residence heading towards Egypt, and the Alexandria train station ending up in Dalaman. Since it was going to be too expensive to re-ship everything to the right destination, the station was built in Dalaman anyway, with even a few miles of purposeless railway track. The Khedive is also the perpetrator of the settlement in Dalaman of Afro-Turks of Sudanese origin, whose descendants are still well distinguishable among the population. Is there anything else you wish to know about Dalaman ?
